MODEL HISTORY

The 2002 series sits prominent in BMWs history as the ancestral grandfather to the 3 Series and a model line that brought the company out of near bankruptcy.

 

Produced from 1968 to 1976 the 2002 Series is credited for inventing the compact sporting saloon, now hugely popular in various German, Japanese and American forms. These small 2-door saloons feature high performance engines, suspension and agile sports car features.

 

The 2002tii offers the greatest overall performance of the 02 series and is considered the most desirable. Its distinctive feature being the Kugelfischer fuel injection system and combined with a higher compression ratio gave the tii strong mid range torque and top end power. Add in bigger brakes and sports suspension the car provides a superior level of driver feedback and enjoyment.

EXTERIOR

This little tii has been very well looked after over the years. The Verona paint work looks fresh and has a deep shine which is complimented with the sparkling chrome work. All of the rubber seals are in good condition showing little wear or tear. All of the waist moldings and door mouldings have been replaced recently and remain in great condition.

INTERIOR

The centre piece of the interior is a delicious period signature momo steering wheel signed by Jacky Ickx that has been recovered in soft leather, this small and thicker than standard wheel transforms the feel of the car both in terms of handling and driving but also the look of the cabin. The seats and carpets have recently been re-upholstered with the correct seat covers and carpets and as such feels fresh, clean and protected by some new overmats. All the seat belts both front and rear have been renewed during the interior revamp.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION

The history file is jam packed full of receipts dating back to the early 80s. The engine has been rebuilt in its life and has recently enjoyed a full inspection and tune up by Mark at MJF engineering. Being a light car, 130bhp is more than enough to propel it down the road like a rocket with an addictive induction noise for a sound track. The 4 speed box matches the torque and power in the engine well and changes through the box cleanly and effectively adding to the hugely addictive driving package.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES

The standard 13 inch alloy wheels have been fully refurbished and are wrapped in new rubber, they now sparkle with new center caps and wheel bolts. There is plenty of meat left on both disc and pad pulling the car to a stop effectively and in a straight line.

HISTORY FILE

 

The service history is complete from the early 80s and is packed into a huge file that comprehensively covers the last 30 years. The car was restored in the late 90s which was carried out by well known specialist Jaymic, all bills and a photographic record have been kept.
