MODEL HISTORY

The E24 6 series was produced from 1976-1989 and was the replacement for the CS and CSL E9 coupes. Like the E9 coupes the early bodies of the 6 were manufactured by Karmann until production was moved in house by BMW. It was the proven E12 5 series that provided the chassis and much of the mechanicals for the E24. Dubbed the 'Bavarian Ferrari' the 6 series was a high end two door luxury sports coupe.

Production started with two models, the 630CS and the 633CSi. It was not until 1978 that the 635CSi was introduced featuring the fantastic 3.5L straight 6 engine. 1979 saw the end of the carburetted fuel systems in the E24s leaving all the straight 6 engines fed by computer controlled fuel injection.

The 3.5L engine was improved on again in 1982 when at the same time the model received an improved interior and slight exterior modifications.

To add to the luxury towards the end of production BMW introduced the 'Highline' in mid 1987. The Highline is considered the most desirable incarnation of the model however there is still a strong following for the previous chrome bumper model. Featuring what was probably close to a herd of cow, the interior of the Highline was covered in leather, includes hand-stitched nappa leather on the seats, door panels, center console, glove box, roof lining, sun visors, door pillars, upper door trim and dashboard. In addition to the leather covered interior the Highline also sported larger bumpers, wheel arches and colour coded door mirrors.

EXTERIOR

This 635 Highline is finished in the rare Cirrus blue metallic paint which looks stunning. It has been garaged all its life keeping the bodywork in exceptional condition. Other than a few light stone chips to the front skirt it is completely flawless. All the trim on the car has kept its colour and is unmarked. This is probably the closest thing to a new 635 you are ever likely to find in the UK.

INTERIOR

If you never got the pleasure of sitting in one of these Highline cars in the BMW showrooms back in the 80's here is your chance! It still has that new car smell when you open the door and of course everything is stitched and covered in the finest leather. Even the best kept leather tends to loose a little of its suppleness over the years but this is not the case here, it is still amazingly soft! We can only assume that it is because it has always been garaged so has seen very little sunlight. The pristine M-technic steering is an optional extra and feels new and unworn to the touch. The boot still has the first aid kit and tool kit which is complete and looks unused.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION

It has only covered 26,437 miles in the last 21 years so is hardly run in. The car has been regularly serviced despite the minimal mileage, so mechanically it is tight and precise, pulling you with ease through the gears and propelling you to its top speed of 138mph. It is evident from one look in the engine bay that this car is in close to new condition.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES

As with all Highline cars its fitted with the cross spoke alloy wheels with Michelin TRX tyres. None of the alloys have been scuffed and the TRX tyres show little wear. The disc brakes are powerful pulling the car up quickly in a straight line and show no wear.

HISTORY FILE

The 635 CSi was first registered in January 1990 and had its running-in inspection 1 month later. The original service book has been stamped 16 times with every service, the first 9 are all BMW main dealer and the last 9 are all from the same BMW specialist.

The original document holder is still present with all the owners guides and manuals. In the document box there is still the original tax disc holder, many photos of the car from over the years.
