Full service history, a late 635 Highline in a rare Royal Blue Metallic.

MODEL HISTORY

The E24 6 series was produced from 1976-1989 and was the replacement for the CS and CSL E9 coupes. Like the E9 coupes the early bodies of the 6 were manufactured by Karmann until production was moved in house by BMW. It was the proven E12 5 series that provided the chassis and much of the mechanicals for the E24. Dubbed the 'Bavarian Ferrari' the 6 series was a high end two door luxury sports coupe.

The original 630CS was carbureted and had a 4 speed gearbox. 1979 saw the end of the non-injection fuel systems and the introduction of computer fuel injection. The 635CSI was not produced till 1978, a couple of years after the introduction of the E24 chassis, the 3.5 engine was then improved on again in 1982 when the model received an improved interior and slight exterior modifications.

To add to the luxury towards the end of production BMW introduced the Highline interior option in mid 1987. The Highline interior includes hand-stitched nappa leather on the seats, door panels, center console, glove box, roof lining, sun visors, door pillars, upper door trim and dashboard.

Equipment

ABS, Power assisted Steering, Electric operated windows, Electric operated Mirrors, Heated Rear Windscreen, Air Conditioning, Boot Spoiler, Trip Computer, Electric Memory Seats, Electric Sunroof, Central locking and remote Alarm.

EXTERIOR

The car is finished in a rare Royal Blue Metallic which really suits the elegant lines. This example has been kept to a very high standard and has had replacement front wings a number of years ago with no evidence of any rust coming back. This 6 also sports the optional shadowline trim replacing all the chrome.

INTERIOR

This is one of the last Highline models so has the most luxurious interior of all the E24 6 Series, everywhere you look is trimmed in soft hand stitched leather, they even went as far as covering the dash and roof lining. The front seats show little signs of wear and the backs look barely used, the electric seat motors work as they should.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION

Being a low mileage fully serviced example the engine still feels very smooth and is coupled with a recently reconditioned 4 speed automatic gear box. The engine was fully serviced with genuine BMW parts including spark plugs only a couple of hundred miles ago.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES

This car was supplied new with 15 inch BBS wheels which are in excellent condition and wrapped in the original spec TRX tyres, these are solid with none of the usual cracks in the sidewalls. The brakes are the standard 282mm vented front and 284mm rear solid discs all in good condition.

HISTORY FILE

Supplied new in October 1988 by BMW in Wakefield the car had its important running in service at 1,115 miles. It then has a fully documented service record with 28 stamps in the original service book from BMW dealers and specialists, backed up with ring binder full of receipts, tax disks and old MOT certificates. Also included in the history is the original document wallet with all the owners' handbooks.
