A very rare Monza GSE with a 5 speed manual gearbox 

MODEL HISTORY

The Opel Monza GSE was introduced as a replacement to the 3.0E in 1984 and ran until 1987 offering sleeker styling, anthracite finish alloy wheels, a stylish Recaro trimmed interior and the ultra modern LCD digital dashboard, the height of technology and very popular at the time.

The GSE was the flagship of the GM fleet, aimed at the highly competitive big sports coupe market. At £13,801 it was two thirds the price of it BMW equivalent and make no mistake the beautifully built, high-class autobahn express was a highly competent BMW alternative. The 3.0 straight six had Bosch LE Jetronic fuel injection and developed 180 bhp achieving 0-60 in under 9 second and a top speed of 135 mph.

The ride was also improved over its predecessor sitting slightly lower on the MacPherson sports suspension. Solid, civilised and quiet on the move it absorbs bumps efficiently and induces confidence and stability. Fitted with disc brakes on all four corners and a LSD.

A real drivers car the Monza GSE also made a platform for sporting Vauxhalls that followed.

EXTERIOR

The jet black paintwork is in excellent condition with a deep shine, the only marks are a couple of stone chips to the leading edge of the bonnet and the front spoiler. All of the plastic trim is in excellent condition with no damage or fading. In the past the car has been entered at shows which is clearly evident by the highly polished paintwork.

INTERIOR

Being the GSE it comes with fantastic sports seats which are in very good condition with only slight wear to the piping on the drivers bolster, the rear seats are as new. The door cards are trimmed in matching fabric and look great with no scuffs or marks, the dash and centre console retains its original finish and has aged well without cracking or damage. The roof lining is very tidy with no tears or stains and the boot and parcel shelf are also in great shape.

The LCD dash is fully functioning and all the other electrics work as they should.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION

This Monza comes with an excellent history file so it is clearly evident that it has been well looked after its whole life. The engine fires into life on the first turn of the key and has a lovely 6 cylinder burble. With 180bhp and a manual box it is a good match for a BMW 635csi.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES

The anthracite finish alloy wheels are all in very good condition and are shod in a matching set of Firestone Firehawk tyres all round with plenty tread. The brakes show minimal wear and pull the car up quickly in a straight line.

HISTORY FILE

This Monza comes with its original Opel document holder which contains the owners manual and supplements.

There is a history box full of all the old service and parts receipts, Mot certificates, tax disks and some interesting original Vauxhall pamphlets, audio manuals and location maps. There has been five previous owners including one who was a member of the 'Royal Monza Owners Club'.

The car comes with a private six digit plate that ends in GSE
