MODEL HISTORY

The E24 6 series was produced from 1976-1989 and was the replacement for the CS and CSL E9 coupes. Like the E9 coupes the early bodies of the 6 were manufactured by Karmann until production was moved in house by BMW. It was the proven E12 5 series that provided the chassis and much of the mechanicals for the E24. Dubbed the 'Bavarian Ferrari' the 6 series was a high end two door luxury sports coupe.

 

The original 630CS was carbureted and had a 4 speed gearbox. 1979 saw the end of the non-injection fuel systems and the introduction of computer fuel injection. The 635CSI was not produced till 1978, a couple of years after the introduction of the E24 chassis, the 3.5 engine was then improved on again in 1982 when the model received an improved interior and slight exterior modifications.

Equipment

Leather sports seats, Electric windows, Electric mirrors, Electric sunroof, Air conditioning, Trip computer, Heated rear screen, Blaupunkt cassette player, Michelin TRX tyres.

EXTERIOR

This 635 is finished in Saturn blue paintwork which is a great combination with the cream leather interior. The body is in good condition with surprisingly few stone chips to front. The black trim does not suffer from any fading and the rear spoiler is free from the usual cracks and sun damage.

INTERIOR

This example comes with the leather sports seats that are trimmed in soft cream leather, the leather is in good condition through out with only some minor cracking to the piping on the drivers seat bolster. The rest of the interior is also in good condition with no wear to the carpets or damage to any of the plastic trim. All the controls work as they should and the original Blaupunkt cassette player is still present. In the boot there is a spare alloy wheel with a TRX tyre which is in very good condition and a tool kit which remains complete.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION

This 635 has a very tidy engine bay and you can tell instantly its been well maintained, all the mechanics are in fine order. The 4 speed switchable automatic gearbox pulls through the gears with ease providing plenty of performance from the straight six engine.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES

The car comes fitted with the standard BMW cross spoke alloy wheels which are in good condition and shod in the original spec TRX tyres, these are solid with none of the usual cracks in the sidewalls. The brakes work as they should pulling the car up in a nice straight line.

HISTORY FILE

The 635 was first registered in October 1987, it then had the important running-in inspection done at 1200 miles. All of the service work from then until 2005 was undertaken by Beechwood Warrington BMW, despite the cars modest mileage it has had a total of 20 inspections and services over the years the last being an inspection 1 at 72,272 miles.

 

The history file also contains many MOT certificates dating back to 1991 and the original owners manuals and handbooks are still present.
