MODEL HISTORY

The E24 6 series was produced from 1976-1989 and was the replacement for the CS and CSL E9 coupes. Like the E9 coupes the early bodies of the 6 were manufactured by Karmann until production was moved in house by BMW. It was the proven E12 5 series that provided the chassis and much of the mechanicals for the E24. Dubbed the 'Bavarian Ferrari' the 6 series was a high end two door luxury sports coupe.

Production started with two models, the 630CS and the 633CSi. It was not until 1978 that the 635CSi was introduced featuring the fantastic 3.5L straight 6 engine. 1979 saw the end of the carburetted fuel systems in the E24s leaving all the straight 6 engines fed by computer controlled fuel injection.

The 3.5L engine was improved on again in 1982 when at the same time the model received an improved interior and slight exterior modifications.

To add to the luxury towards the end of production BMW introduced the 'Highline' in mid 1987. The Highline is considered the most desirable incarnation of the model however there is still a strong following for the previous chrome bumper model. Featuring what was probably close to a herd of cow, the interior of the Highline was covered in leather, includes hand-stitched nappa leather on the seats, door panels, center console, glove box, roof lining, sun visors, door pillars, upper door trim and dashboard. In addition to the leather covered interior the Highline also sported larger bumpers, wheel arches and colour coded door mirrors.

Equipment

Electric sliding sunroof, Highline equipment, Rear-seat head restraints, Interior headlight adjust, X-spoke alloy wheels, Rear window blind, Memory electric seats, Air conditioning, Electric mirrors, Rear spoiler, Remote central locking, Pioneer tape player

EXTERIOR

Finished in Alpine white this 6 series is in stunning condition, you can tell that its always been kept garaged as all of the rubber/plastic trim is still supple and has not faded. The paint finish is almost flawless, the only negative being a few stone chips to the front. The car still has its original dealer number plates and sticker in the rear window. The current owner is a member of the BMW car club and has kept the car incredibly clean.

INTERIOR

Being a Highline car it has all the options and everything is trimmed in soft nappa leather. All of the electrics work as they should and the leather is unmarked. It has the optional rear sun blind fitted and the original Pioneer tape player is still installed with the manual kept in the history file. All the tools are still present and the BMW over mats look almost new.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION

This 635 is in fine fettle, it has only covered 67,190 miles and has been serviced at least every 6,000 miles. Despite the low mileage the car has never had a period without use which is the best formula for keeping all the moving parts working. The engine pulls well and it slides effortlessly through the gears.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES

The car is fitted with the standard cross spoke alloy wheels that are all in good condition, they have never been refurbished and have picked up a couple of light curb marks in the last 23 years. The Michelin TRX tyres where replaced less than 3,000 miles ago so only have minimal wear. The brakes work as they should pulling the car up in a nice straight line.

HISTORY FILE

This 635CSI Highline was first registered in October 1988 and stayed in the hands of its first owner for 17 years. The current owner purchased the car in 2005 so its only had 2 owners over its 23 year life.

The first owner had the first 4 services done at the supplying BMW main dealer before changing to 'Forrest Motors BMW Specialist' in 1992, who have continued to service the car till the present day, the last being done less than 1,000 miles ago. Throughout the cars life it has never gone for more than 6,000 miles without a service and there are a total of 15 stamps in the original service book.

The original document holder is still present with all the owners guides and manuals. There is also a box file with old MOT certificates, tax disks, service receipts, original sales brochure's, BMW car club membership details, and a copy of the advert when the current owner purchased the car in 2005.
