Model History

With the introduction of a new facelift for the Z4 Roadster in 2006, BMW also launched a much more powerful version, the Z4M. It featured a more muscular front end, aerodynamic underbody structure, and twin tailpipes. Its chassis benefitted from a lightweight front axle and sportier suspension than the standard Z4, which made for better weight distribution and, therefore, improved cornering speeds. The Z4M was also fitted with a top-of-the-range 3.2-litre S54 6-cylinder powerplant from the M3 delivering 338hp and 270 lb-ft of torque. Other new features on the all-new Z4M included an innovative Dynamic Stability Control system (assisting in slippery conditions), Advanced Safety Electronics and a high-performance braking system. A total of just 1,052 EU-spec Z4M coupes were produced in right-hand drive between April 2006 and June 2008.

Exterior

With its long, sweeping bonnet and chiseled physique, this low mileage M Coupe looks particularly sharp although our studio photos really don’t do it justice. The Carbonschwarz paintwork is exceptionally well presented throughout with a great depth of shine across every panel. At the front end there are very few stone chips to note, and the Xenon headlights are crystal clear. Looking along both sides the car is free from any unsightly parking dents and the trims are perfect. All in all, a very smart example in a striking colour combo, looking every bit the low mileage of just 35k.

Interior

The electric sports seats are in excellent original condition. Trimmed in smooth Imola Red Nappa leather they feel soft and supple with only the lightest of wear on the driver’s outer bolster and one small scuff on the passenger seat base to report. The illuminated gear knob and chunky M steering wheel are also very well presented with no major marks to the leather. Other commonly worn areas items as the switchgear and centre console are perfect, and the dash is uncluttered without the oldschool satnav option. Spotless BMW velour floor mats are retained in the footwells and in the boot the carpet is also very clean.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION

The S54’s raspy exhaust note is intoxicating at high revs and the 6-speed manual ‘box is the perfect accompaniment. Under the bonnet of the low mileage example you’ll find a very smart engine bay with absolutely no signs of any damage or previous poor repair. The car has clearly been cherished, which is evident from not only its great condition but also from its maintenance history. Despite the low mileage of just 35k, 11 services have been carried out – the first 9 at BMW, then 1 at Munich Legends, and lastly in September 2023 by our trusted classic car specialist.

History File

This striking black-over-red example is one of only 1,052 right-hand drive Z4 M Coupes produced. First registered in November 2007 it has now driven a mere 35k miles in the hands of just four careful owners. Within the accompanying paperwork you’ll find the original leather document wallet, owners’ manuals, invoices, the service booklet with 11 stamps (detailed below), spare keys, and the V5C registration document.
