Exterior

Immaculately presented in classic Signal Red over black, this low mileage 500SL looks magnificent against our studio backdrop. Having originally sold it to the current owner around 14 years ago, we are delighted to offer this beautiful V8 R107 for sale once again. The car has always remained garaged, and the condition is just as good as we remember. She’s arrow-straight along both sides with perfect panel fitment, and the paintwork maintains a deep, even lustre throughout. The lights are crystal-clear, the windows are scratch-free, and the chrome brightwork is excellent with only a few very minor and very honest imperfections to note. Commonly damaged or perished rubber elements such as the rear spoiler and bumper inserts are absolutely first-rate, and the original 15-inch alloy wheels have no kerb-marking. The matching hardtop also remains in fine order, and other than some expected creasing to the plastic rear screen, the black mohair soft-top is excellent.

Interior

With an interior condition rivalling that of most 3-year-old cars, sitting inside this SL is a real treat for the enthusiast. Everything here not only looks very original but also presents to an excellent standard. The seats retain their factory Anthracite leather covering but look closely and the bolsters are almost entirely unworn; the upholstery also feels as soft and supple as the day it left the factory. The leather front armrest is immaculate, and there is no lacquer damage or discolouration to any of the walnut trim. The switchgear is all fully functional and a period-correct Blaupunkt cassette radio is still fitted. There are no cracks or notable marks on the dash, and in the footwells the carpets are well protected by genuine Mercedes overmats. Everything feels incredibly well put together as only a Mercedes from this era can.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION

Reading through the accompanying service book and history folder it’s clear to see that this 500SL has always been maintained to a very high standard since new. The original service book is fully stamped (entries below) and the car has just returned from a full vehicle health check and oil change at the current mileage of 42k. The engine bay is remarkably clean and tidy with no signs of accident damage or previous poor repair work. The 5-litre V8 fires up first turn of the key, idles smoothly up to temperature, and certainly packs a punch when you need to get a shift on. The automatic gearbox has recently been overhauled so it operates with near-seamless changes, never interrupting a relaxing cruise.

History File

This magnificent R107 was first PDI’d by Mercedes-Benz in Cyprus in 1989 before being officially registered in the UK in February 1990. Since that time the car has driven only 42k miles in the hands of 6 registered keepers, the current owner having acquired it from us way back in 2012. For most of its life the SL has been looked after by either Mercedes or respected marque specialists including SS Motors in Weybridge. A £4,635 overhaul of the braking system and power steering box was carried out in 2024, and in 2025 the transmission was stripped and rebuilt at a cost of £2,490. Freshly serviced, the car is ready to be driven and enjoyed.
