964 is the internal name for Porsche 911s manufactured and sold between 1989 and 1994. Designed by Benjamin Dimson in 1986, the 964 featured significant styling revisions over previous 911 models, most prominently the more integrated bumpers. This generation of 911 was considered to be more than 85% new as compared to its predecessor, the Carrera 3.2. The first 964s available in 1989 were all-wheel-drive ‘Carrera 4’ models, with the rear wheel drive Carrera 2 variant added to the range in 1990.
A new naturally aspirated engine called the M64 was used for 964 models, with a flat 6 displacement of 3.6-litres. Porsche substantially revised the suspension, replacing the rear torsion bars with coil springs and shock absorbers. Power steering and ABS brakes were added to the 911 for the first time; both were standard. The exterior bumpers and fog lamps became flush into the car, allowing for better aerodynamics. Furthermore, a new electric rear spoiler rose up at speeds above 50mph and lowered down flush with the rear engine lid at lower speeds, or at rest. A new automatic climate control system provided superior heating and cooling. Revised instrumentation housed a large set of warning lights that were tied into the car's central warning system, alerting the driver to a possible problem or malfunction.

Presented in rare Amazon Green metallic, this 964 looks stunning under our studio lights. The blue/green hue reflects with a deep glossy shine coupled with a sharp metallic flake. The paintwork and panels are in excellent order throughout with no major defects or irregular gaps to be found. The bodywork remains completely free of any rust and the underside is equally superb. All light clusters and the rear reflector are clear and free from moisture damage. The electronically adjustable rear spoiler operates exactly as it should.
The unmarked black leather upholstery still looks fresh and remains feeling supple to the touch. All seat bolsters are without any damage and the folding rear seats appear unused. The cabin space confirms the 964’s low mileage with very little wear to be found on heavily used items such as the steering wheel, gear knob, and handbrake lever. All the switchgear feels solid to operate and works exactly as it should. The interior remains particularly original throughout with the exception of a period-correct Blaupunkt Paris cassette stereo.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The engine bay of the 964 presents very well upon inspection, with no evidence of any accident damage or modifications to be found. The M64 flat-6 engine fires up on first turn of the key with a familiar tone, settling to an even idle and warming up to temperature as it should.
A major service and light re-commissioning was carried out in January 2018 at 31k miles; the work was completed by Dove House Motor Company at a cost of over £2,800. As such the 911 presents in excellent mechanical fettle and wants for nothing. It will be sold with a fresh 12 month MOT.
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
As a 1991 model this 964 sits on its original 16-inch Design 90 alloys, all of which are in perfect unmarked condition having been fully refurbished to a very high standard. The wheels are shod in a matching set of new Bridgestone tyres, 205/55 up front and 225/50 rear. Behind the wheels the black calipers appear particularly fresh with the Porsche font clearly visible. All brake discs are showing minimal wear, and the brake fluid was replaced at 31k miles.
This 964 was supplied new to Japan (C08) and thus remains in astonishing rust-free condition. Within the History File is the original Porsche document pack containing all manuals and booklets. There are a host of service invoices from new, as well as service stickers to verify the vehicle’s very low mileage and maintenance history. A Porsche Certificate of Authenticity is present along with data cards, specification documents, a spare key, and a brand new sealed Porsche GB service booklet; the original Japanese booklet is also present. The car is fully UK registered and will receive a fresh MOT upon sale.
