The second generation of BMW 6-Series consisted of a coupé (with the chassis designation E63) and a convertible (E64). Designed as a grand tourer the E63/E64 generation was produced from 2002 until 2010 and is often collectively referred to as the E63. It was succeeded by the next generation of 6-Series in March 2011.
The E63’s striking exterior was designed by Adrian van Hooydonk. It was based on the 1999 BMW Z9 concept car designed by the then BMW Design Chief Chris Bangle. The controversial rear styling, as first seen on the E65 7-Series, was described by BMW as incorporating “flame surfacing”, where concave and convex shapes meet to create sharp edges.
To reduce weight, the doors and bonnet of the E63 were made of aluminium, while the boot and front wings were made of carbon-reinforced plastic. A number of engines, gearboxes, and high-specification technologies were offered throughout the E63/E64 range. The example featured here is the range-topping 650i Sport. One down from the M6 the 650i was produced from 2006 and boasted BMW’s naturally-aspirated N62 4.8-litre V8 with a silken six-speed ZF automatic transmission.

This exemplary, mileage-defying 650i presents beautifully in BMW Individual Ruby Black metallic with high gloss Shadowline trim. Having recently been treated to a re-spray at Rybrook Worcester BMW the condition of the car is truly stunning, more in-keeping with a vehicle of 50k miles. The current owner is a real perfectionist and has spent an eye-watering £21,000 over the last year with BMW, making sure that everything with the car is both mechanically and aesthetically spot on.

As with the exterior condition, the interior space presents immaculately throughout. The Individual Platinum Merino leather upholstery is a sublime contrast to the Ruby Black paintwork, and has very recently been professionally restored at a cost of £1,600. The extended leather option is subtly accented with the dark birchwood interior trim, all of which is in perfect condition throughout the cabin. Pleasingly, even smaller details such as the armrest and steering wheel have received restorative treatment, now looking and feeling as new.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
Beneath the bonnet lies the hearty 4.8-litre V8, providing a thunderous soundtrack and 362hp with 361 lb-ft of torque. Within the past year the current owner has spent a huge amount of money with BMW replacing gaskets, belts, pulleys, pipes, almost all suspension components, and many more items (all genuine BMW parts) all of which are invoiced within the history file. As with the rest of the vehicle, the owner went through it with BMW and insisted on replacing any parts showing wear or tear. Most recently an oil service was carried out in May 2019.
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
The BMW sits on 19-inch Individual V-spoke alloys shod in matching Dunlop SP Sport Maxx GT tyres. The wheels are without any marking and the tyres show plenty of tread remaining having seen little over 5k miles of use since fitment in 2018. The brakes perform effortlessly on test showing plenty of meat left on both the pads and discs all round. This is also confirmed by a recent BMW health check that was carried out in October 2019 by Rybrook Worcester.
This impeccable example was first registered in December 2006; it was sold through the supplying dealer BMW Park Lane. Since then it has been in the hands of just four keepers, the first being BMW and then the first private owner in 2007 – the sales invoice totalling £49,545 is still present within the history file. The car is accompanied by a comprehensive service history, the service booklet containing 17 stamps from both main dealers and marque specialists. There is also a large collection of invoices dating back to 2007 detailing all work and parts, as well as every MOT certificate present helping to further verify the mileage.
All in all this car offers a fantastic opportunity to own an immaculate and high-specification BMW Individual model, with the desirable 4.8-litre V8 and presenting as if it were a third of the mileage shown on the speedometer. Having had over £21,000 spent with BMW over the past two years, this particular example seems like excellent value for money.
