Exterior

Finished in its original shade of Pewter Metallic (L956), this 3.0 SC presents with a fantastic period-correct look. The colour itself suits the classic 911 silhouette perfectly, giving the car a subtle yet distinctive presence compared to the brighter hues often seen on 1980s examples. After a machine polish, the paintwork boasts a deep shine all round. There is some light patina in the finish with minor imperfections in places that are consistent with a car of this age and use. The exterior trim, including the black impact absorbers, rubber inserts, and window surrounds, presents in good order. The iconic Fuchs alloys set the look off perfectly, their classic five-leaf design complementing the metallic silver bodywork. All tyres are recent with plenty of tread remaining.

Interior

Inside, the SC presents very nicely indeed. The grey Berber tweed (also known as Scottish Tweed) is a wonderfully period option. The deep sports bolsters remain supportive with only a small amount of wear to the driver’s side lower bolster, while the passenger and rear seats are in excellent condition. The seat backs and door cards are upholstered in contrasting blue leatherette. The dashboard is free from cracks and a 350mm Momo Prototipo steering wheel has been fitted, as well as a hand-turned wooden gear knob, both of which feel great in-hand and really add to the overall driving experience.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION

The SC is powered by Porsche’s 3.0-litre flat-six, a robust unit well-regarded for its blend of performance and reliability. On first twist of the key, it fires readily into life before settling into the familiar flat-six burble through the Dansk exhaust. Power delivery is smooth, and the engine pulls strongly through the rev range, accompanied by that unmistakable air-cooled soundtrack. The 5-speed manual gearbox is fitted with a Rennshift shift mechanism which gives a more precise period-typical shift action. The clutch remains positive, and on the road the car drives with plenty of verve, one of the best we’ve driven.

History File

The accompanying file contains the original maintenance book that’s stamped with the first seven services, and then a raft of invoices showing all subsequent services and MOTs. In 2024 the car underwent a full shakedown with air-cooled specialists, NineSixFour. Some of the work carried out included valve adjustment, new oil lines, new engine mounts, ignition timing, gearbox mounts, new fuel pump and lines, new turbo tie rods, gearbox service, etc. The current V5C registration document shows only 6 previous keepers.
