Model History
Introduced in the early 90s as a successor to the legendary R5 GT Turbo, the Clio 16v boasted a naturally aspirated 1.8-litre 16-valve engine producing 137hp. In addition to having a higher top speed than a regular Clio, the 16v sported wider front wings and rear arches, an offset bonnet vent, uprated suspension and brakes, light-alloy wheels, and colour-coded exterior trim. Inside were deeply bolstered sports seats, a sports steering wheel, and an extended instrument panel with additional gauges.
Equipment
Pearl Black metallic paintwork, Grey leather upholstery, 15-inch Speedline alloy wheels, 5-speed manual transmission, Sports seats, Leather-trimmed sports steering wheel, Electric sunroof with retractable sun blinds, Electric windows, Electric door mirrors, Original Renault/Philips cassette player, Additional oil gauges, Colour-coded exterior trim, Analogue clock, Supplying dealer rear window sticker and keyring, Tailored carpet mats, Remote central locking, Spare remote key.
Exterior
Finished in lustrous Pearl Black metallic (one of the best Mk1 Clio colours in our opinion) this surely unrepeatable Phase 2 looks fantastic against our studio backdrop. High quality, low mileage 16Vs are now very thin on the ground, and so to find an exceptional unmolested example such as this is a rare treat. With a mere 40k miles under its belt the car presents beautifully throughout. Free from any unsightly swirl marks the paintwork retains a wonderful depth of shine, and the delicate plastic trims are absolutely first-rate all round. There are no marks or signs of water ingress to any of the lights, and even the supplying dealer sticker is still displayed in the rear window. All in all, a cherished example in outstanding age-defying condition.

Interior
This magnificent little Clio was spec’d new with full leather upholstery, all of which remains in fine order. The deeply bolstered sports seats are still very supportive and comfortable, and having never required any repair work both appear in excellent original condition with only a few expected creases to the driver’s bolster. The dashboard and door cards are also free from any major marks, with other commonly worn items such as the steering wheel and gear knob in great condition too. The original Philips cassette player is pleasingly still fitted having never been swapped with an aftermarket head unit, and the rear parcel shelf is undamaged and without any speaker holes.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The engine bay is very clean and tidy, not overly dressed but in excellent original condition with no signs of any damage or previous poor repair. The car has clearly been well maintained throughout its life, and while it hasn’t been serviced every single year there are 10 entries in the original book at close mileage intervals: 7,037 – 16,083 – 26,490 – 29,571 – 31,494 – 34,110 – 36,137 – 38,126 – 39,562 – and most recently at 40,170 miles in December 2020. This last service also included a new timing belt, water pump, and clutch. For additional peace of mind, a full mechanical inspection will be carried out prior to sale.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
Filling the 16v’s wider arches are the original 15-inch Speedline wheels with their metal centre caps all present and correct. There are no unsightly kerb marks to report and the tyres are matching all round. The brakes have also been checked and remain in fine operational condition, bringing the Clio to halt effortlessly and in a straight line.

History File
Supplied new by Cross Roads Garage and first registered in April 1994, this one-registered-keeper 16v Clio has now driven only 40,316 miles from new.
