Exterior

Looking every bit the 80s poster car, this G50 Targa with the optional Sport Equipment strikes a stunning pose against our studio backdrop. The entire body has just been treated to a full detail and machine polish resulting in a deep black shine that’s free from any swirl marks. All the badges and rubbers are also in excellent shape, as are the rear spoiler and rollover bar. Aside from one or two small blemishes the car looks fantastic and seemingly defies both its years and miles. The vinyl Targa roof fits well and none of the lights show any signs of moisture ingress. With its slightly lower ride height and correct Fuchs wheels, it’s a particularly striking example in black.

Interior

Inside, the Targa boasts desirable sports seats trimmed in Linen leather and edged with black piping. All the seat bolsters are in good condition with little more than some expected light surface marking on the driver’s side to report. The steering wheel is original and feels great in hand with a perfect grain to the leather. All the switchgear still feels solid to operate and for modern convenience a Sony radio with USB connectivity is currently fitted. The carpets are in excellent order, including under the bonnet, and there are tailored overmats in the footwells.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION

With its 3.2-litre flat six and 5-speed G50 manual gearbox, this open-top 911 is very rewarding to drive. The car is accompanied by a stack of invoices documenting its excellent maintenance history all the way back to day one. Having always been in regular use with servicing carried out at close mileage intervals, the car has never fallen into any major disrepair. The original service booklet is fully stamped up to 2015 with only Porsche and Porsche specialist entries; all the remaining work is invoiced, and for the new keeper’s peace of mind a full vehicle health has just been carried out.

History File

This handsome example was supplied new in August 1988 by Merlin Cambria Ltd. and, quite remarkably, the original bill of sale is still on file. The original Porsche document pouch and owners’ manuals are also present along with a thick raft of invoices, MOT certificates, tax discs, a clean recent HPI report, and the current V5C registration document showing only 5 former keepers (most of these G-Series 911s have seen 10+ owners by now). Notable recent maintenance items include, but are not limited to, new ignition leads and spark plugs, brake discs and pads all round, injector cleaning, new inlet manifold gaskets, and compression and leak off tests – all carried out within the last 2k miles. The clutch was replaced by JZM Porsche at 113k miles. Servicing and recent maintenance as follows:
