Model History

Along with the mid-generation refresh of the C-Class in 2005, the C32 AMG was also replaced, giving way to a new 5.4-litre naturally aspirated V8-powered C55 AMG, as featured here. This was an evolution of the V8 engine found in the previous E-Class, with power raised to 361hp and torque climbing 376 lb-ft. The C55 shared its longer front end design with the CLK55 AMG to accommodate the large 5.4-litre engine. It was also the first AMG C-Class to feature quad exhaust outlets and an external differential cooler. The official Nürburgring Nordschleife lap time seen for the C55 AMG was 8:22 compared to 8:37 for the C32 AMG, mostly due to the revised suspension and extra torque. The C55 was mainly sold as a saloon with a portion of estate cars supplied in Europe.

Equipment

Brilliant Silver Metallic paintwork, Black Nappa leather upholstery with AMG insignia, 18-inch AMG double-spoke alloy wheels, 5-speed automatic transmission, AMG exterior styling pack, Heated and electrically-adjustable front seats with memory, Automatic bi-xenon headlamps, Rain-sensitive wipers, Electric tilt and slide glass sunroof, Blue heat-insulating glass all round, Birdseye maple wood interior trim, Air conditioning, Electric folding door mirrors, Headlight washers, Dynavin touchscreen head unit with Bluetooth and satellite navigation, Space saver spare wheel, Spare key with AMG fob.

Exterior

This is without doubt the cleanest, most original W203 C-Class we’ve seen and, having driven only 14k miles from new, we’re confident that it’s the finest C55 AMG available today. The paintwork is exceptional with a deep, even lustre and quite remarkably it appears original throughout. She’s arrow-straight along both sides and apart from a handful of very light frontal stone chips everything is first-rate. Having resided on Japan’s salt-free roads up until recently both the body and underside remain in excellent rust-free order. The car has clearly been garaged as there is no evidence of sun damage to any of the external trims or paintwork. It's not every day we're blown away by the condition of a car when it first arrives with us on site, but that was certainly the case when we took delivery of this cherished example.

Interior

The as-new condition continues inside. The original Nappa leather is some of the finest we’ve seen of any car of this age, remaining perfectly soft and supple with the same shine-free finish as when it left the factory back in 2005. The driver’s bolster is barely wrinkled and the multifunction steering wheel also looks incredibly fresh with a perfect factory texture. Glancing across the dash all the plastics, switchgear, and glossy maple wood inlays are free from scratches, and in the footwells you’ll find a full set of spotless JDM-spec Mercedes overmats (a brand new set of genuine Mercedes black mats are also included). At the rear of the car the back seats have clearly seen very little use and the boot area is pristine. All in all, a highly impressive and original interior, the only upgrade over standard being a subtle touchscreen CarPlay head unit that integrates seamlessly into the dash.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION

Lift the bonnet and you’re presented with a truly immaculate engine bay that looks more in line with that of a two-year old car. Much like the exterior and interior, everything here presents in first-rate condition including the grey AMG engine cover that’s free from any marks or discolouration. With 9 stamps in the original Mercedes service booklet the car has clearly been well maintained all its life despite having driven so few miles. The last service was completed less than 2,000 miles ago and, for the new keeper’s peace of mind, a full mechanical inspection was carried out by our trusted classic car specialists on arrival with us.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES

The C55 sits on handsome 18-inch AMG double-spoke alloy wheels, all in perfect unmarked condition. They are shod in a matching set of Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tyres, all date stamped 2021 and all with at least 6mm of tread left. The brakes have also just been checked and remain in fine operational condition, effortlessly stopping the car quickly and in a straight line.

History File

First registered in September 2005 and supplied new by Yanase Mercedes-Benz in Japan, this surely unrepeatable C55 AMG has now driven only 14,045 miles from new. The original Mercedes-Benz service booklet is fully stamped (entries below) and a spare remote key is also present amongst the paperwork.

Offering blistering performance with understated yet attractive looks, the C55 is real wolf in sheep’s clothing, and in such exemplary condition this super low mileage example is worthy of any collection.
