Exterior

Finished in Brilliant Black, this ‘93 Eunos Roadster presents in exceptional condition throughout. Even more impressive, the vast majority of the paintwork is believed to be original – quite remarkable for any 33-year-old car. The defining feature of this Roadster is its outstanding, exceptionally rust-free condition - something seldom found on an early Mk1 today. The underside remains entirely original, with no evidence of welding or structural repairs, preserving the car exactly as it left the factory. The original factory spot welds remain clearly visible along the wheel arches and sill lips, providing a rare level of authenticity that discerning enthusiasts and collectors will immediately appreciate.

Imported to the UK in 2004, this Roadster has clearly been cherished throughout its life. When purchasing a Mk1, structural integrity is paramount, and this example excels in that regard. The MOT history contains no advisories relating to corrosion, further reinforcing its exceptional condition. The vinyl hood is in excellent condition and the 14-inch BBS alloy wheels have recently been professionally refurbished with the correct polished lips. All four original BBS centre caps are present, along with the factory removal tool. A brand new set of Uniroyal tyres has also just been fitted.

Interior

The interior remains highly original and unmodified, presenting exactly as an early Eunos Roadster should. The original 'tombstone' seats are in excellent condition, with no notable wear to the bolsters or seat bases. It retains its original S-Special Nardi Torino steering wheel and matching gear knob, both of which remain in excellent condition. Impressively, the original double-DIN Panasonic stereo has been retained and is included with the car, although a Pioneer head unit is currently fitted for improved everyday usability.

Where many MX-5s of this age have been modified, this example stands apart for its originality. The footwells are still fitted with genuine S-Special over-mats, also in excellent condition – another rare and desirable feature that has become increasingly difficult to source.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION

The Roadster is powered by the lively 1.6-litre DOHC engine, which still feels exceptionally strong, pulling cleanly and smoothly throughout the rev range. The engine bay presents beautifully and reflects the level of care the car has received over the years. The original yellow strut brace remains in place, while a polished cam cover provides a subtle finishing touch. The car has recently benefited from a cambelt and water pump replacement, an oil and filter service, new spark plugs, and an air conditioning re-gas. It is increasingly rare to find a Eunos Roadster with a fully-functional factory air conditioning system.

As an S-Special, the car is fitted with factory Bilstein dampers, which sharpen the handling and reduce body roll while maintaining an impressively compliant ride. The renowned Mazda five-speed gearbox performs exactly as it should - precise, positive, and a pleasure to use.

History File

First registered in Japan in 1993, this Roadster was imported to the UK in August 2004 and has remarkably had just two private owners since; the V5 records three keepers, as the first registered keeper was the import agent. The first owner purchased the car in September 2004, just one month after import, and kept it for the next 20 years, during which time it was always carefully garaged.

The comprehensive history file includes numerous invoices dating back to 2007, almost every MOT certificate since 2004, and a recent HPI report. The odometer currently reads 117,380 km (72,936 miles). Following import, the speedometer was professionally converted to MPH using Lockwood dial faces. With Eunos Roadsters now commanding almost twice the values in Japan as they do in the UK, the number of solid, rust-free, unrestored examples remaining on these shores continues to diminish. As a result, this represents not only an exceptional example to own and enjoy but also a compelling long-term investment opportunity.
