Exterior

Presenting beautifully in Verde Muschio (Moss Green - 209), this Alfa was treated to an extensive bare-metal respray by C&S Coachworks in 2017 with invoices present totalling £21,000+. Other than a few age-related blemishes, it continues to present extremely well, with a deep shine following a recent ceramic coating. There is no corrosion to be found in the usual areas and the underside is beautifully presented (photos available). On closer inspection, the brightwork is in excellent condition, with no corrosion or pitting evident. Equipped with the desirable Alfaholics Stage 1 Fast Road Suspension Package and very rare Momo Vega wheels, the car not only handles superbly but also sits with a more purposeful and assertive stance.

Interior

The beautifully appointed interior retains the classic Italian styling of the 1750 GTV, with driver-focused gauges and wood-trim panels. The original steering wheel is still present and is included with the car, although a Momo Indy wooden steering wheel is now fitted and feels superb in the hands when driving. Both front seats have been recovered in recent years and remain in excellent condition. The carpets are protected in the footwells by black overmats.

This example also benefits from a number of discreet modern upgrades, including a hidden Bluetooth receiver and speakers, an electronic 123 Tune Bluetooth distributor, which also allows the car to be immobilised, and an electric washer pump in place of the original foot-operated pump. A heated front windscreen has also been fitted, making the car considerably more usable year-round.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION

The ‘matching numbers’ 1750 engine remains in place and was stripped down and rebuilt by Andy Cattani of Classic & Race in 2018. Andy is a highly regarded Alfa Romeo engine specialist and also maintains Adrian Newey's race cars, so the engine was undoubtedly in very capable hands.

The gearbox has also been refurbished in recent years. Upon arrival, the Alfa was inspected by our local classic-car workshop, who carried out a fresh engine tune, balanced the carburettors, and fitted new spark plugs. On the road, this example drives extremely well, with tight handling, a smooth-shifting gearbox, and an engine that pulls strongly throughout the rev range.

History File

First registered in South Africa in 1971, this beautiful Alfa Romeo 1750 GTV was purchased by a family who had been involved in classic-car restoration and importing since the 1980s. The family were also actively involved in Alfa Romeo clubs, with the father having served as chairman of various clubs in South Africa. The car was exported from Durban to the UK in 2015 when the family emigrated to Poole, Dorset. The original kilometre-per-hour speedometer is still present and is included with the car, although it has since been replaced with a UK MPH unit, meaning the current mileage cannot be verified.

The Alfa was subsequently purchased by its current owner, who has, over the years, commissioned a significant amount of bodywork and mechanical work to create the car to his ideal specification. Within the history you will find the original export documentation, a 1750 GT brochure, invoices relating to the work carried out since its arrival in the UK, and the current UK V5C.
